A Proper Pub Wedding at The Embankment Pub
They wanted a proper pub wedding.
Not a wedding in a pub that still felt formal. Not a styled shoot version of a pub. An actual, lived-in, relaxed day where the focus was good food, good beer and good company. They absolutely nailed it.
The Details

The Embankment Pub
The Embankment is a beautiful Grade II listed building, originally opened as a Boots pharmacy in 1909. Its now ran by the Castle Rock Brewery after being restored in 2015.
Why The Embankment Pub Works So Well for a Pub Wedding
The Embankment Pub is one of those venues that already has so much character, beautiful interiors, historic windows, cosy bars and proper pub atmosphere throughout. For couples who want their wedding to feel social rather than staged, it’s ideal. You can move naturally through the spaces, guests can grab a drink, chat, laugh and feel comfortable. That sense of ease is exactly what makes a pub wedding work. Beth and Simon were really clear that they wanted the day to be about the people, not the formalities. A short, relaxed ceremony followed by celebrating with family and friends. Their autumn wedding at The Embankment Pub felt more like the best social gathering you’ve ever been invited to than a traditional wedding day. The kind where everyone settles in, relaxes and properly enjoys themselves.
A Relaxed Autumn Wedding with Good Beer and A White Wedding Taxi
Autumn really suits a pub wedding. It’s practical, relaxed, and naturally social people arrive, grab a drink, and settle into being together. Beth got ready at her parents’ home with her bridesmaids, while Simon got ready at their place. It was a very relaxed start to the day, no rushing around, just everyone getting on with things in their own time.
They took a white taxi cab over to The Embankment Pub, which felt very on brand for the relaxed, no-fuss vibe they were going for. Guests were already arriving, drinks were flowing, and from there, the day flowed easily.
The Ceremony in The Lord Trent Room
The civil ceremony took place upstairs in The Lord Trent Room. Short, personal and relaxed, just as they wanted.
Beth and Simon had said beforehand that the most important part of their wedding day was the celebration with family and friends. The ceremony reflected that. Meaningful without being overly formal, and focused on bringing everyone together.
Once the ceremony ended, everyone headed downstairs to The Dispensary for reception drinks, celebrations and family photographs. This is one of the things I love most about pub weddings. There is no awkward waiting around. The energy stays high and people just get on with enjoying themselves.
Drinks, Photos and Making the Most of the Pub
After reception drinks, we headed back upstairs to The Lord Trent Room for dinner. Between courses, Beth and Simon and I ducked into both of the bars for their couple photos. This was a big part of their vision. Making the most of the venue as a pub. The bar, the beer pumps, the decor, the little corners that make the building what it is. Not heavily directed just natural moments that actually reflect who they are.
They had been really clear that photography mattered to them. They wanted moments captured, not just what happened but how it felt. The laughs, the glances, the connections with their family and their children. Those in-between moments that tell the real story of the day.
The Cheese Wedding Cake That Stole the Show
Let’s talk about the cheese wedding cake.
Instead of a traditional cake, Beth and Simon went all in on a stacked cheese masterpiece. It was so good it had to be kept in a separate room. Honestly, I completely understand why. It fit the pub wedding vibe perfectly. Unpretentious, indulgent and a massive hit with guests and me, I was given a take home box of cheese and crackers and it was delish! After the buffet, the speeches took place, followed by plenty more drinks downstairs in The Dispensary. The cheese cake that was so smelly it had to be kept in another room is one of those details guests will talk about for years. And it’s such a good example of how personal touches make a wedding feel like the couple, not a template.
Live Music, Packed Dancefloor and Proper Pub Energy
In the evening, The Nashville Heat arrived and brought the party with them. Their live set was lively, fun and exactly right for the space. The dancefloor was packed all night. That pub atmosphere where people are dancing, singing, laughing and genuinely having a great time rather than worrying about what they look like. With it being Autumn the sunset was early, we popped outside briefly for some relaxed couple photos. Just a short moment away from the noise before heading back in for more drinks and celebrating. It was the Nottingham Beer Festival so we did get photo bombed by some random passersby.
