A Wild-Hearted Nottingham Forest Wedding

Katie and Phil’s love for adventure and the outdoors made a woodland wedding the perfect choice. “Having so many of our families and friends in one place having a lovely time” was what they were looking forward to the most.

The Details

A wild hearted wedding in the WOODS.

Outdoor wedding ceremony in a forest clearing.

Katie got ready at home with her bridesmaids and their gorgeous blue-eyed ragdoll cat, who – despite not attending the wedding – earned a well-deserved shoutout on their website and a prime spot on the top table in photo form. A true VIP. Meanwhile, Phil spent the morning at the Glade, squeezing in some axe throwing before finalising the last details. Katie’s dad walked her down the aisle, and their friend Paul led the ceremony, which included heartfelt readings from Katie’s bestie and Paul’s father. They exchanged personal vows they’d written for each other, sparking a few tears and plenty of laughter.

Neon Raptor IPAs from the best brewery in Nottingham and a string quartet.

After the confetti and family photos, everyone made their way to the tipi where Mark was serving up a delicious light lunch. A string quartet played softly in the background, setting a relaxed vibe. The sun was shining, the afternoon was pure joy, with axe throwing, party games, and plenty of laughter. Exactly the kind of laid-back celebration Katie and Phil had dreamed of.

Not every wedding has a VIP cat on the top table.

The lunch from Ashley Mark Catering was absolutely class, the food was followed by some top tier speeches. There wasn’t a dry eye in the tipi, faces were certainly hurting from laughing so hard.

A best man, a crown, smoke grenades and newlyweds all walk into the forest.

It sounds ridiculous because it was, there was no prompting or poses here, just a bride and groom up a tree with their best man wearing an inflatable crown and waving smoke grenades around. After we had recovered from laughing so hard we went for a walk and Katie and Phil had a bit of quiet time together; which if you know them, obviously involved more tree climbing. Some people bring so much energy to their day and I am thankful to photograph it.

Celebrating in the evening sun in Sherwood Glade’s lush forest clearing.

This first dance was such a reflection of Katie and Phil, they went hard into it with multiple songs, tearing up the dance floor. It was so much fun and completely and utterly them. Nothing makes my heart sing more than when a couple fully embraces “your day your way” and this is one way they took tradition and put their own stamp on it. I love to see it.

Golden hour wedding portraits which naturally lead into some axe throwing and then unexpected fire jumping.

Oh my gosh, catching the sunset in the forest for a couple of golden hour photos depends on so many factors all being just right and we were super lucky to catch the sun setting at this Nottingham forest wedding. Katie and Phil were still up for taking a little bit of time out to spend with each other and me so off we went. There were still a couple of smoke grenades left so we figured a group photo by the fire pit with the wedding party would be a perfect use, this was when Phil randomly walked off and then jumped over the fire. Everyone’s faces in those photos are just priceless.
