The Details

Blakeley Lane Campsite
An eco friendly campsite set in the ancient Sherwood forest, only a couple of miles from the Major Oak.
A Sherwood Forest Wedding in the Heart of the Woods
Choosing to get married in the middle of Sherwood Forest at Blakeley Lane Eco Campsite, surrounded by trees, family and friends. An ancient forest wedding. No big venue, no formal structure. Just a clearing in the woods and the people who mattered most to them. From the first time they told me their plans to get married in the forest, I knew it was going to be a good one. The whole idea suited them perfectly. Relaxed, a bit wild, and completely their own. June delivered one of those rare perfect days, hot sun, blue skies, and the forest providing cool shade for everyone gathering in the clearing.
An Outdoor Ceremony Surrounded by Trees
The ceremony took place in a natural clearing in the woods. Guests gathered between the trees while family and friends made the space their own with flowers and decorations. Jen walked down the aisle with her dad while James waited at the arch, which had been decorated with more wildflowers. There were a few tears during the vows, plenty of smiles, and then the two of them walked back down the aisle together through a shower of confetti. Then end of the ceremony there was a brief moment of wedding day chaos when a small hay bale caught fire. All I saw was the bride followed by bridesmaids sprinting over to put the fire out and then carry on celebrating. Not something you see at every wedding, but it didn’t ruined a thing.
DIY Wedding Decor in the Forest
This wedding was full of personal touches.
Family and friends had spent time decorating the campsite with hand painted signs, flowers and small DIY details throughout the space. It all worked perfectly with the woodland setting. When you’re getting married somewhere like Sherwood Forest you don’t need to go too hard on the decor. The trees, the light through the branches and the natural surroundings do most of the work. Jen carried a wildflower wedding bouquet which fitted the setting perfectly. Natural, colourful and slightly untamed.
A Relaxed Forest Wedding Celebration
After the ceremony everyone settled straight into celebrating. The atmosphere was relaxed with no strict timelines, no rushing from one thing to the next. Just people enjoying the day together. There was a wedding BBQ, and tequila doing the rounds, heartfelt speeches and plenty of laughter. As the evening rolled in the celebrations carried on with limbo dancing and a packed dance floor under the trees. It was one of those weddings where everyone went in on the dancefloor, even the grandparents danced.
Why Weddings Like This Work So Well for Observational Photography
Jen and James weren’t interested in spending long stretches away from their guests. They wanted to get married, celebrate with the people they love and enjoy the day. That’s where an observational wedding photographer fits in.
Most of the day is simply about paying attention to what’s happening. At one point we took a short wander into the forest for a few photos away from the noise of the day.
JEN, JAMES, ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS, THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR DAY AND TRUSTING ME TO CAPTURE THESE MOMENTS!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT X

“Laura was fantastic from the get go. Wonderful attention to detail and took all our requests on board as well as offering lots of ideas of her own. She was always very professional both leading up to and as a big part of our day but also a pleasure to be around.”
